Background
Valocity, a leading provider of property valuation software, faced significant challenges due to design inconsistencies across their suite of products. These inconsistencies led to a fragmented user experience, increased development time, and maintenance challenges. To address these issues, I was part of a team tasked with creating a unified design system to standardise and streamline the design and development processes across all Valocity products.
Objectives
Identify and document inconsistencies Conduct a comprehensive audit of all Valocity products to identify inconsistencies in design elements, components, and user interactions.
Create a unified design system Develop a design system that provides a single source of truth for designers and developers, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
Enhance user experience Improve the overall user experience by creating a cohesive and intuitive interface across all products.
Process
Audit and Analysis Conducted thorough audits of all existing Valocity products. Documented inconsistencies in UI components, colour schemes, typography, iconography, and interaction patterns. Engage with product managers, developers, and users to gather insights and understand pain points caused by these inconsistencies.
Defining the Design System Collaborated with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, and stakeholders to define the core principles and goals of the design system. Established a visual language, including colour palettes, typography, and iconography, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. Created standardised UI components and patterns, such as buttons, forms, navigation elements, and modals, to be reused across all products.
Prototyping and Validation Developed high-fidelity prototypes demonstrating the application of the design system across various products. Conducted usability testing with real users to validate the effectiveness of the new design components and patterns. Iterated feedback to refine and improve the design system.
Implementation and Documentation Collaborated with the development team to implement the design system across all products. Created comprehensive documentation, including guidelines and best practices, to ensure consistent application of the design system by all team members. Conducted training sessions and workshops to onboard designers and developers to the new design system.
Outcomes
Consistency and Cohesion The new design system is starting to eliminated inconsistencies, providing a cohesive and unified user experience across all Valocity products. Improved collaboration between designers and developers, reducing development time and maintenance costs.
Enhanced User Experience Users reported a more intuitive and seamless experience,leading to higher satisfaction and engagement. The standardised components and patterns contributed to a more predictable and efficient user journey.
Scalability and Flexibility The design system was built to be scalable, accommodating future product expansions and updates with ease. The modular nature of the design system allowed for flexibility, enabling customisation for specific product needs while maintaining overall consistency.

Assiting in the creation a unified design system for Valocity was a transformative project that significantly improved the consistency, efficiency, and user experience across all products. This case study highlights the importance of a systematic approach to design and the value of collaboration, user feedback, and thorough documentation in achieving successful outcomes This case study demonstrates my ability to tackle complex design challenges, work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and deliver impactful solutions that enhance both user experience and business efficiency.
